Yale Visit
6/24/43: I went out this afternoon to see about getting a room, & was absolutely unsuccessful. It seems almost unbelievable that a room cannot be obtained but this town is filled up tight this next weekend – a convention of some sort. I am very disappointed, as now I’ve got another week to moon around with nothing to do. Boy, I can see myself sitting in the movies to pass the time. Then next weekend – I can hardly wait. Of course, I want to see Mother & wish she could come, but sweetheart, I do want to have that weekend with you and you only. However, I telegraphed this afternoon about no room, & also wrote a letter inviting her to come with you. I’ve emphasized the crowded transportation, & although I know she will be fiercely disappointed, I do hope she decides not to come. Selfish of me, I know. I know you will handle the situation diplomatically, & I’ll be happy no matter whether you come alone or with Mother. Just don’t urge her too strongly.
